I’m ecstatic to announce that Anne of Anne Wonders nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award! I want to start off by thanking Anne, because her nomination made my day. Her blog is truly amazing, and I’d recommend that you check it out!
At first, I didn’t know what the Blogger Recognition Award was. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you, and provide a link to their blog.
- Showcase your nomination in a blog post
- Give a brief story of how your blog started
- Give pieces of advice to new bloggers
- Nominate 15 other people to participate in this award
- Comment on each nominee’s blog to let them know they’ve been chosen
How My Blog Began
One and a half years ago, I created a free blog on Wix for a school project. Although the blog itself wasn’t great, it was fun to maintain. However, I decided to delete the website after a while. When I decided to go back to blogging, I opted for a free site again . . . but it was a mistake. I became extremely frustrated with the lack of control that I had over my site (and the fact that I didn’t even own my content!), and I decided to buy my own self-hosted site with WordPress. Since starting my WordPress blog, things have improved dramatically. I love posting new recipes on this space, and I love connecting with readers! I’ve been blogging on this site for almost three months, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life!
Advice For New Bloggers
Even though I wrote an entire post about the lessons I learned in my first two months about blogging, I’d like to share a few more tips now.
#1: Don’t let the spammers get you down.
This is something I’ve been struggling with lately — why do people leave spam comments on my blog? Why do they care? What do they get out of antagonizing me? I’m sorry to say that I don’t have the answers to any of these questions. The best I can do right now is ignore the spammers, because they don’t have anything to offer me. All I can do is stay positive, because things always look better in the morning.
#2: If you’re feeling uninspired, take a break and come back later.
Last week, I was feeling discouraged about my blog. I wasn’t sure if all the hours I was (and still am) putting into this are worthwhile, and I actually considered quitting. When I came back today and started brainstorming, I realized that I still love what I do! I love cooking, photographing, and sharing recipes. I love writing posts, and I love connecting with other bloggers. Sometimes all it takes is a good night’s sleep. Like I said in Tip #1, things always look better in the morning.

To conclude this challenge, I’m very excited to nominate 15 other amazing bloggers! Every blogger on this list is a talented, creative individual, and their blogs are wonderfully unique.
To those I have nominated: Thank you for all the incredible work you put in to your blogs! You definitely deserve this award. Cheers!
The Blogger Recognition Award was so fun to participate in! I want to send out another huge thank-you, not only to Anne, but to everyone who continues to read My Sweet Potato Life. Your support is what keeps me going! You mean the world to me.
