Say hello to your new favorite snack! These zesty orange kale chips pack a punch of chili heat and orange sweetness. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of raw kale, so these chips are a great alternative. They are crunchy and salty, the perfect alternative to deep-fried potato chips! (*Cough cough Whole30 lifesaver*)
I highly recommend you make these, even if you aren’t on a Whole30. Kale chips (or any other leaf chips i.e. beet greens) are a great way to get more greens into your diet. The next time you find yourself reaching for a salty, crunchy snack, grab these! For me, that “addictive” snack is walnuts with crunchy sea salt. (I know, it sounds weird, but trust me! It’s GOOD!). Having these kale chips on hand made it easier to resist mindless snacking.
These were great snacks for a recent road trip that I went on; they helped me pack in as many greens as possible. I wanted to make sure I had enough vegetables, but fresh produce wouldn’t survive the long car ride. In addition, I was traveling with my school. I couldn’t just run to the grocery store and pick up some extra vegetables! These zesty orange kale chips made it easy to eat enough healthy greens! I brought the whole batch with me, and they were gone within a few days.
Let’s break these chips down:
We have fresh curly kale, washed and chopped. You can use small chunks of kale or larger leaves if you’d like.
Next, we have a squeeze of fresh orange juice and a sprinkle of orange zest for a bright pop of flavor. Then, we have a dash of cayenne pepper and a scattering of chili flakes to add a punch of heat. These zesty orange kale chips are, well, zesty.
Finally, I drizzled some olive oil and sprinkled some salt to add the finishing touches to these chips. Then, I baked them to crispy perfection!
Greens never tasted so good!
