Whole30 Cauliflower Falafel

This Whole30 Cauliflower Falafel is fun, healthy, and delicious! It’s also super easy — just blend the ingredients together, cook them up, and serve with Greek Guacamole! This is the perfect meal for everyone, because it’s Paleo, Whole30, vegetarian, low-carb, and even nut-free. If you’re looking for a chickpea-free, gluten-free version of your favorite Mediterranean dish, this is the recipe for you!

Whole30 Cauliflower Falafel

First off, can we just geek out over the fact that this recipe is low-carb? Goodness knows I don’t have many of those on here . . . I mean, we are talking about My Sweet Potato Life, after all. That makes me appreciate these Whole30 Cauliflower Falafel even more, because even more of you guys can eat them!

Also, I love carbs (don’t get me wrong), but sometimes it’s great to take a break and eat more low-carb veggies like cauliflower. Which has taken over the Internet lately. Or am I late to the craze? Is cauliflower still “in”? I sure hope so, because these Cauliflower are SO GOOD. So is this cheesy Cauliflower Grits Casserole, which is low-carb but definitely not Whole30. 😉

Whole30 Cauliflower Falafel

I served these falafel with a drizzle of tahini and my Greek Guacamole, and they were SO. FREAKING. GOOD. I designed this recipe to pair with the guacamole, which is why they appear in the same photo shoot. I suggest you do the same (make the guacamole with the falafel, not set up a photo shoot — although you can certainly do that if you want to.) The olives and the red onions in the guacamole really shine through and compliment the falafel. I’m pretty sure you’ll love it!

Because I’ve never deep-fried anything in my life, I did not fry these Whole30 Cauliflower Falafel! Instead, I cooked them in a pan with a little oil. I guess you could call that a pan-fry or a shallow fry, but it’s still a heck of a lot better than deep-frying in shifty oils like canola or soybean. To crisp these up a bit more and keep them warm, I baked them in the oven for a little while. Yum!

My mom is absolutely obsessed with Greek food, and she actually gave these her stamp of approval. That’s huge. I think (hope!) you will too, once you try them. Enjoy!

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Add the cauliflower, garlic, onion, 1 tablespoon of the sesame seeds, cumin, egg, coconut flour, and salt and pepper to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  3. Remove the falafel mixture from the blender. Stir in the remaining sesame seeds, parsley, and cilantro. Chill the mixture for 5-10 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  4. Meanwhile, heat up a pan with a fair amount of coconut or olive oil over medium heat.
  5. Form patties with the falafel mixture and saute them. Make sure you have enough oil in your pan, as these are liable to stick.
  6. Once each falafel finishes cooking, carefully transfer them to a lined baking sheet (they are fragile). Bake them in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until they are firm and slightly crunchy on the outside.
  7. Enjoy the finished falafels with a drizzle of tahini or Greek Guacamole! (see note)
